Adrienne Demers: Member at Large
My Platform
I entered the teaching profession strongly determined to make a meaningful impact. Confronted by systemic challenges that often render our aspirations for public education seemingly unattainable, I became involved in the union's work. As Local President, my primary focus is including and amplifying teachers’ voices. I strive to enhance member engagement and uphold our collective rights through bargaining and grievances. Serving on various provincial committees, I have advanced significant issues such as eliminating obstacles in the teacher certification process, addressing the teacher shortage, fostering respect for our profession, empowering teachers through professional autonomy, and promoting teacher wellness. The untenable working conditions, exacerbated by the teacher shortage, have reached a critical juncture. The scarcity mindset, systemic oppression, and the persistent reality of chronic underfunding pose serious threats to our working environment. Teachers are increasingly bearing the brunt of these impacts. We must build solidarity and engage in collective actions to uphold the principles of social justice and protect the rights long held in our collective agreement. My approach remains consistent throughout these efforts—relational and assertive, grounded in core values of inclusion and solidarity.

My Family
Family is at the heart of everything we do as educators. Whether it’s supporting our students as they navigate challenges, advocating for a fair work-life balance, or ensuring that every teacher has the resources to thrive, I believe that a strong union should reflect the values of care, community, and connection. As Member-at-Large, I will work to strengthen policies that protect educators’ time with their families, promote well-being, and create a more supportive environment for all. When we take care of our teachers, we build a stronger foundation for the future—because when educators flourish, so do our students and communities.
